JSoN, the Jewish Service Online Network puts cutting-edge web-based tools in the hands of everyone interested in connecting to Jewish service and social justice. Like the new generation of cell phones, JSoN combines several powerful functions in one:An Online Community Customized for Participants in Jewish Service Programs: Through JSoN alumni can connect to staff and friends from their program, join a global network of people from other Jewish service programs, find other service alumni in their area, and see local events. JSoN members can engage in challenging discussions on diverse topics, select news feeds, and receive customized updates and action alerts on issues of interest. Alumni can use JSoN to form virtual interest groups, work collaboratively online – and of course, access all of the site’s tools and public resources. JSoN will enable alumni to explore careers that make a difference and other ways to have an impact. A Virtual Town Square: JSoN brings together a broad array of news, action alerts, events, and opportunities related to social justice, social action, volunteering and advocacy on US, Israel and International issues. JSoN content will include Jewish teachings and contemporary thought, as well as photography, videos, and other media. The site content is the result of new partnerships among dozens of leading organizations and individuals, both within and beyond the Jewish community. JSoN will make it possible for anyone to join open dialogues on diverse issues and to discover information and ways to get active that they might not have found. An Alumni Relationship Management System for the Jewish Service Field: JSoN is powered by a scalable and robust database system that enables the Coalition and its affiliates to stay in contact with alumni on an individual or on a group basis. It allows programs to set customized access privileges, to standardize the publication of term of service programs and one-time events, and to handle online program registration through secure e-commerce processing. JSoN also provides an Intranet to strengthen collaboration among service program staff. JSoN is Sponsored by The Jewish Coalition for Service. The mission of the Coalition is to inspire everyone in the Jewish community to dedicate a part of their lives to full-time, hands-on volunteer work.
