Information Collection & UseRegistration for Access to Resources on JSoN
In order to interact with this Web site, you must first complete the registration form and create a user name and password. During registration you are required to give information including your name, email address, zip code and which Jewish service program you have participated in. Please see “Uses of Information” to understand how this information will be used.
You will have the option to view the site on a limited basis without saving your information into any system. If you choose this option, your interaction with this site will result in no further communication from the Jewish Coalition for Service and/or JSoN.
Registration and use of JSoN for AlumniIn addition to a resource, JSoN is a social networking community of Jewish service alumni that connects people through service programs, personal connections and shared interests. If you are an alumna/nus of a Jewish service program, you have the opportunity to create a profile on the www.jsonlive.com site. Your profile contains personal information. Information that is required in order to set up a profile is the following: name, date of birth, email address, zip code, the program in which you participated, the year/s of participation, and location of service experience. In addition, alumni may choose to include information in their profile relating to any of the following areas: middle name, address, phone number, education, summer camp experience, youth group experience, city where you grew up, organization affiliations, campaigns you’re working on, interests, and current professional information.
As a Community member, you have the opportunity to share other personal information in other parts of JSoN such as chatting with other alumni, pasting items on bulletin boards, blogging, sharing photos, and other postings. Other JSoN Community members can view this information; however the information may not be archived in the system. Please be aware that any information you post in these fora has the potential to be seen by other people in the community as well as other users of the site. Any personally identifying information that is posted is your responsibility and may result in unsolicited messages from unknown people. JSoN takes no responsibility for information posted onto the site; however JSoN administrators will be monitoring the site for inappropriate language and behavior. If you find anything posted on the website to be inappropriate, please send details about the posting, including the page on which you saw it and the URL in an email to
info@jewishservice.org with the words “inappropriate web content” in the subject line. JSoN reserves the right to discontinue any person’s account if the account violates the terms of use (which is accessible via a link on the footer of this site).
The personal information you enter into your profile will be available to those people whom you choose. You will have options that control sharing of information in your profile. You can select/modify these options when choosing your privacy settings. You will choose to be seen by either all community users, or alumni of all programs of your affiliate, or nobody. If you choose not to have your profile seen, you will still be able to view/use all parts of JSoN and receive emails/action alerts unless you choose to unsubscribe from these communications.
Only alumni of Jewish service programs (programs listed on this website as affiliates of the Jewish Coalition for Service:
www.jewishservice.org/aboutus) the staff of those Jewish service programs, and the staff of the Coalition will be permitted to have a profile and be able to see other people’s profiles.
Surveys or ContestsWe may provide you the opportunity to participate in contests or surveys on our site. If you participate, we will request certain personally identifiable information from you. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and email address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age or affiliation).
We will use this information to improve your experience on the site by better matching JSoN with its user.
We may use a third party service provider to conduct these surveys or contests; that company will be prohibited from using our users’ personally identifiable information for any other purpose. We will not share the personally identifiable information you provide through a contest or survey with other third parties unless we give you prior notice and you consent to such use.
Tell-A-Friend If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site. The Jewish Coalition for Service will send this one-time email and will not store the friend’s email address.
Uses of InformationWe use the information you input when you register for the site or sign up for a Jewish service alumna/us profile to send you an update about the field of Jewish service approximately four times per year. If you have participated in a Jewish service program, your information may be shared with the organization that provided the program. This organization may choose to add your name, email address and zip code into their system and be in touch with you in the form of a newsletter or other emails. Please feel free to visit the privacy policy of the organization with which you did your service. If you have participated in a Jewish service program, you will be invited to create a profile in JSoN community.
Other than the situation stated above, your information will not be shared with any organizations or companies under any circumstance, within the limits of the law.
If at any point you wish to not receive any emails from the Jewish Coalition for Service and/or JSoN, you may email your request to
info@jewishservice.org.
You will have the option to view some parts of the site without saving your information into any system. If you choose this option, your interaction with this site will result in no further communication from the Jewish Coalition for Service and/or JSoN.
If you have a registered Jewish service alumni profile on JSoN and if you have at least one message, the system will send a daily email to the email address you have registered informing you of the number of messages in your community inbox. This will happen automatically, however you will also have the option to receive an email notifying you of messages every week, or not at all.
The site may also send articles or information of interest to alumni of Jewish service programs who request information on certain topics. Anyone who receives this information will have the option to no longer receive it by sending an email to
info@jewishservice.org expressing what you would like or not like to receive or clicking on “unsubscribe me from this list.”
UpdatesWe will occasionally send you information on updates to our site by email.
Customer ServiceBased upon the personally identifiable information you provide us, we will send you a welcoming email to verify your username and password. We will also communicate with you in response to your inquiries, to provide the services you request, and to manage your account. We will communicate with you by email.
Profile We store information that we collect through cookies and log files to create a “profile” of your preferences in order to provide tailored information and marketing offers regarding service/volunteer opportunities, job postings, etc., and to improve the content of the site for you. We do not tie your personally identifiable information, and or your program participation history to information in the profile. We do not share your profile with third parties except those programs as explained in “Uses of Information.”
Information Sharing and DisclosureWe share aggregated demographic information about our user base with our partners and/or advertisers and/or funders. This information does not identify individual users. We may use it to let Coalition affiliates (listed as affiliates of the Jewish Coalition for Service on this page: www.jewishservice.org/aboutus) know how many of their alumni are using the site. It also might be used to learn about the geographic location of our users or other ways to make the experience better for you. We will also use it to report aggregate statistics on site utilization to the project sponsors in order to ensure the project’s future.
We do not link aggregate user data with personally identifiable information.
JSoN may receive names, email addresses and possible other information from Coalition affiliates. Please see the affiliated programs’ privacy policies, which will say how they govern their information. Anyone added to the Jewish Coalition for Service’s database will have the option not to receive any communication from the Coalition and to be removed from their lists by sending an email to
info@jewishservice.org with this request.
JSoN may receive names and profile information from interested people through the web and public events.
Service ProvidersWe use an outside company to maintain the back end of JSoN. This company does not retain, share, store, or use personally identifiable information for any other purposes.
Log Files As is true of most Web sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and click stream data.
We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
We do not link this automatically collected data to personally identifiable information. We use a third-party tracking service [Google Analytics] that uses cookies [log files] to track non-personally identifiable information about visitors to our site in the aggregate (i.e. user paths, entrance pages, exit pages, most visited pages, most clicked links) to help us understand better visitor behavior on the site so we can improve the site’s user interface and provide additional content in content categories that are most popular amongst site users
